PUBLIC MEETING

COUNTY OF CRAIG

LIBRARY DHCD GRANT

In February 2016, the County, in concert with the Craig County Friends of the Library Board of Trustees, began developing a planning process by which the County could determine how best to utilize the services provided by the Craig County Library. As a stakeholder in this community development project, you have the opportunity to become a part of this growth.

The County and the Library Board of Trustees are conducting a public meeting on January 17, 2017 at 7:00 pm in the Craig County High School cafeteria. At this meeting, the County will be seeking the following from those attending:

  • Description of community needs, including discussion of public facilities and economic development needs
  • Discussion of community goals and strategies for specific improvements, focusing on business, economic and job opportunities
  • Identify focus areas such as physical changes, development strategies, stakeholder engagement, technology infrastructure
  • Determine the viability of improvements to the Craig County Library which will meet identified needs and create an all-encompassing Community Center

The process began when the County filed an application with the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) seeking a Planning Grant. DHCD requested additional information and evidence of community support for the project.

In response, key stakeholders were identified and invited to participate in the County’s Management Team. Two public meetings, which were open to the public, were held in May and June 2016. These meetings focused on discussion of physical space needs for improvements to the Craig County Library which would address economic, job, education, training and other goals for improvement.  The DHCD accepted the County’s additional information and approved a Planning Grant in the amount of $30,000.

Your input is critically important. By attending this meeting on January 17 at the Craig County High School, you will ensure your needs and requirements are included in this process. The County and Library are starting to develop the vision for the new facility and are seeking guidance for the process of creating a planning document which will drive toward the goal of empowering individuals to build a stronger community.

If you have any questions regarding this meeting or the Planning Grant, please contact the County Administration Office via email at suzanne.craigco@tds.net or call 540-864-5010.
