The Craig County General Registrar and Electoral Board is accepting applications for the position of
General Registrar’s Office Assistant
Immediate opening is part time and seasonal as we prepare for the November 3, 2020 General Election and will lead to a permanent part time 4-year appointment for the right candidate. Qualified candidates must be able to work most weekdays Mon – Fri, including some Saturdays now through December at the Main Street GR/EB office in New Castle.
Requirements: The successful candidate must be a registered VA voter (or eligible at the time of application and willing to register before the October 23rd deadline) in good standing; must be 18 years of age or older; and must possess a minimum of a High School diploma or GED Equivalent. The ideal candidate will be customer service oriented, have strong computer and office equipment skills, have a valid Virginia driver’s license, and a can-do, positive attitude, as well as, a desire to learn all facets of the Voting and Voter Registration process. Ability to manage in a non-partisan, fast-paced and highly confidential work environment is a must.
Position is entry level, pays $10.50/hour and training is provided.

Deputy Sheriff Position
The Craig County Sheriff’s Office is seeking applications for the position of Deputy Sheriff, and Deputy Sheriff/Animal Control. The Craig County Sheriff’s Office, is a full service law enforcement agency. The minimum qualifications to be considered for the position are as follows: 1. Be a citizen of the United States. 2.Be required to undergo a comprehensive background investigation including fingerprint based criminal history records inquires. 3. Have a High School education or have passed the General Educational Development (GED) exam. 4. Possess a valid Virginia driver’s license. 5. Be willing to undergo a physical examination, and psychological testing and drug test, subject to a conditional offer of employment, conducted under the supervision of a licensed physician and psychiatrist. 6. Be at least 21 years of age. 7. Not been convicted of or plead guilty or no contest to a felony or any offense that would be a felony if committed in the Commonwealth of Virginia. 8. Not been convicted of or plead guilty or no contest to any misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, including but not limited to petit larceny, or any offense involving moral turpitude that would be a misdemeanor if committed in the Commonwealth of Virginia. 9. Not been convicted of any Misdemeanor sex Offense in the Commonwealth of Virginia, another State, or the United States. 10. Not been convicted of Domestic Assault under 18.2-57.2, or any offense that would be Domestic Assault under the laws of another State or the United States. 11. Be willing to work all shifts to include weekends and holidays. 12. Pass a Physical Fitness test that requires a timed 1.5 mile run, prior to an offer of appointment. 13. Sign a three year contract as a condition of appointment . 14. Craig County residency required due to on call status. 15. Starting pay is $ 33,475, with an increase to $ 35,001 after one year. 16. One year probationary period from date of appointment. 17. Must meet the requirements to be DCJS certified as a law enforcement officer within one year or be separated from your appointment.
